Waterproof enclosure  Protection levels and test standards
The protection rating of a waterproof housing is the ability of the housing to protect against solid objects and liquids. Protection ratings are usually labeled using the IP (Ingress Protection) rating.

The IP rating consists of two numbers that indicate protection against solid objects and liquids, respectively. The first number indicates the level of protection against solid objects and the second number indicates the level of protection against liquids.

The specific meanings are as follows:

1. The first number (protection level for solid objects):

0: No protection.
1: Capable of preventing entry of solid objects with a diameter greater than 50mm.
2: Can prevent solid objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm from entering.
3: Can prevent solid objects with a diameter greater than 2.5mm from entering.
4: Prevents entry of solid objects with a diameter greater than 1mm.
5: Prevents entry of solid objects that are harmful to dust.
6: Can completely prevent dust from entering.

2. The second number (liquid protection level):

0: No protection.
1: Protects against vertical dripping.
2: Capable of preventing the entry of inclined drips.
3: Able to prevent the entry of spray rain.
4: Able to prevent the entry of spray water.
5: Capable of preventing the entry of strong water jets.
6: Capable of preventing the entry of strong water impact.
7: Able to be immersed in water for a short period of time, but will not cause damage to the equipment.
8: Capable of being immersed in water for a long period of time, but without causing damage to the equipment.

For example, a waterproof housing with an IP68 rating indicates that the housing is completely protected against dust ingress and is capable of being submerged for a long period of time, without causing damage to the device.

It should be noted that different products and industries have different levels of protection, so when choosing waterproof housing, you need to determine the required level of protection according to the actual use of the environment and needs

The protection rating of a waterproof housing is usually labeled with an IP (Ingress Protection) rating, which consists of two numbers that indicate protection against solid objects and liquids, respectively. The following are common IP ratings and their meanings:

1. IPX0: No protection. Provides no protection.

2, IPX1: Protection against vertical dripping. Able to prevent vertical drips from entering.

3、IPX2: Protected against tilted drips. Able to prevent drips from entering within 15 degrees of inclination.

4、IPX3:Protection against rain spray. Able to prevent the entry of spray rain within 60 degrees.

5、IPX4:Protection against spray water. Able to prevent the entry of water sprayed from any direction.

6、IPX5:Protected against strong water jets. Able to prevent the entry of water sprayed from any direction.

7、IPX6:Protection against strong water impact. Able to prevent the entry of strong water flow.

8、IPX7:Protection against temporary water immersion. Able to be immersed in water for a short period of time, but will not cause damage to the equipment.

9、IPX8:Protection against continuous immersion. Able to be immersed in water for a long time, but will not cause damage to the equipment.

To test the level of protection of a waterproof housing the IEC 60529 standard is usually used, which defines the test methods and requirements for the different levels of protection. The specific testing process includes testing the housing in different ways, such as spraying water, jetting water and impacting water, to assess its waterproof performance. The test results will be graded according to the actual situation.

It should be noted that different products and industries have different protection level requirements, so when choosing a waterproof shell, you need to determine the required protection level according to the actual use environment and needs.
Test standards for waterproof enclosure

Waterproof enclosures are usually tested according to the standards set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The following are some common test standards for waterproof shells:

1, IEC 60529: This standard is widely used in electronic products and equipment protection level test, also applies to waterproof enclosure. It specifies the methods and requirements used to measure the protection of equipment against solid objects and liquids.

2、IPX7:This standard specifies the ability of equipment to be able to be immersed underwater under specific conditions. According to this standard, the equipment should be able to be immersed in water with a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes without causing damage.

3、IPX8:This standard specifies the ability of the equipment to be immersed in water for a long period of time under certain conditions. According to this standard, the equipment should be able to be immersed in water for a long period of time at a specified depth and time range without causing damage.

4, MIL-STD-810G: This is the U.S. Department of Defense environmental engineering standards for military equipment, which includes test requirements on water resistance. According to this standard, the equipment needs to pass a series of tests, including water shower, water spray, water immersion, etc., to verify its waterproof performance.

It should be noted that different products and industries may have their own specific requirements and test standards, so when choosing a waterproof case, you need to determine the required test standards based on the actual needs and application areas.
